Monday Musings...
It would seem that we have left fall in the dust, judging by how it feels (and looks) outside.
The trees literally dumped their leaves exceedingly fast, and whatever plants we have in our garden has gone on to better things.
Must be all that global-warming-supplied cold we felt over the weekend. Nice to go from short sleeves to winter coats so quickly.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us cloudy skies, temps rising to about 42 degrees, and the good possibility of some snow flurries. I heard we might even see some accumulation (probably not significant enough to bring out the shovel or rock salt.
So, let's all get a hot cup of coffee, tea. or cocoa to warm the innards, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the coat closet is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
NOVEMBER 12 -
---It's National Chicken Soup For the Soul Day
(can I get noodles or matzo balls to go with that?
---It's National French Dip Day
(This isn't bad, but who doesn't dip a sandwich now and then?)
---It's National Pizza With Everything Except Anchovies Day
(Sorry, I don't do "everything" on ANY pizza, kapeesh?)
*** Next up, rather than start the weekend in Fort Wayne off with a BANG, we END the weekend with one. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20181112/shooting-on-barr-street-1-dead
This took place Sunday around 1600 hrs in the 2500 block of Barr St. That's tucked in right near Reservoir Park on the SE side (where else?).
This makes THIRTY NINE homicides so far this year.
((UPDATE - 1445 hrs: The victim has been ID'ed as Truvarus L. Giddens, 22 of Fort Wayne.))
*** Next,  another fire in another government-sponsored apartment complex results in e apartments evacuated. Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/apartments-evacuated-after-fire-in-attic/1587610665
This took place on the (where else?) SE side east off of S. Anthony Blvd along the 2100 block of Chartwell Drive.
No one was injured and the fire IS under investigation.
*** Next up, a case can always be made for "rushing the holidays"...and proof can be found HERE:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/jefferson-pointe-to-light-tree-welcome-santa/1583960852
C'mon people...it's NOT even Thanks-bloody-Giving yet, and here you're going about lighting public CHRISTMAS TREES?
WTH is wrong with you?
Cripes, why not stock store shelves with VALENTINE'S candy wheile you're at it?
(sheesh!)
*** Next, time to drop by "Kitten Corner"...
The kids were not that bad, considering Wifey drove down to Vincennes to visit her dad, and was AWOL for the weekend.
Violet peeks from inside the kitty "surf house".
Violet actually did a good turn yesterday. She alerted to a noise upstairs.
Seems the toilet was running (you know how that goes sometimes), and she heard it. I solved the problem (jiggled the handle) and all was well. My thought is that one of the cats was up there, stepped on the handle (to look out the window) and the toilet hung up on a flush (which I didn't hear).
Sleepy IS...as Sleepy DOES.
That's pretty odd. Or, it could have been ghosts...lol.
Gallifrey was busy napping between bird-watching sessions.
*** Next up, let's do a check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Post-meal grooming session
Our furry duo stayed fairly close by the house all weekend. She was absent for Sunday lunch and he was gone for brief times throughout the weekend.
Taking a moment to pose for a picture.
Fortunately, they were both around the the "soggy food Sunday" fest and for hand held treats.
It is getting a might cold to sit out with them, but I do short spells during the day.
*** Last back to the hat rack...sometimes, you just have to wonder what possesses some people.
And the thing is, you don't have to go any farther to find them than you own street.
Take the (very) simple process of raking leaves. You have a rake, you have leaves, and you use the rake to move the leaves to a desired location. Easy.
Well, he doesn't work for a living.
But some take simple and "redefine" it...like using a lawn mower to rid yourself of leaves.
Granted, it makes decent mulch, but is getting a $5 rake asking too much? You'd rather fire up a gas mower, and haul that around with more difficulty than it would take to put your body to work with that rake? I can't determine if it's stupidity or laziness.
I tend to side step those altogether, and haul out the electric leaf BLOWER and move all the leaves with efficiency and expedience.
I guess the lawnmower man would be the same kind to park on a lawn...or drop trash all over the streets.
Naturally, you can't legislate stupidity, but with some effort, you CAN learn to live without it (or at least with a minimum of it).
It's just that some make the wrong choice, and decide it's better to live WITH it...than without it.
And there lies much of society's problems. Things may change...in time. Just not today.
Remember that a clean lawn does not necessarily a good neighbor make.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

FRENCH DIP!!!

Alright, I'm already hungry early, Robert....

Truvarus? Isn't that an insulin brand name?

Well, I can honestly say I've heard it all- blaming "cat flushing the toilet" for plumbing problem!

I hate to bring this up, but... while it WAS a riding mower, I used to "ride herd" on leaves myself. Why rake it to a central location when you can move it there AND chop it into little bitty pieces? That, sir is occupational therapy!

Chris:
---I know what you mean...and I have to type all that MUCH earlier (listening to my stomach growling all the time...LOL).
---Yeah, I think I saw a commercial about it (and the side effects) on some obscure cable channel...
---Toilets don't get "hung up" all by themselves. That much I know about how they work (and how to fix them).
Maybe it's Indian spirits from the past messin' with me.
(or the ghost of a former cat)
Besides, haven't you see pictures of cats USING toilets? They can be potty trained...seriously.
(It's the credit cards I worry about)
---Riding mowers...different animal. We have one older man who DOES just that, and that works REAL fast on a corner property.
This neighbor has no occupation that NEEDS therapy...LOL.
The Latino neighbors did THEIR lawn with rakes...and done well.
To each their own? Maybe.
I think a push mower is a bit unusual, but it IS the SE side, right?

Thanks for stopping by today to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother)
