Monday Musings...
Okay, so who ordered another dose of craptastic weather, hmm? I want names!
I think I've had MY fill of it for this year...how about you?
Yes, we have school delays out the wazoo (and a few closings) as well.
And to think that tomorrow, we'll be right back into the mid-40s...again.
This is just plain nuts.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly cloudy skies, early fog scattered about, and snow covering the roads from yesterday. so you KNOW what that means...DRIVE DEFENSIVELY!
Temps will top out around 33 degrees, BUT (uh oh), we'might see some freezing rain later this afternoon before it transitions to ALL rain (...joy...). That might make the commute a bit "touchy", so be careful.
HOW "comforting" is this stuff?
Yep, we're gonna need a nice comforting beverage to start THIS day, so let's get that poured and parked close by, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the snow-crusted street is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
FEBRUARY 11 -
---It's National Clean Out Your Computer Day
(I already cleaned the sidewalks and steps, front and back...no thanks)
---It's Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk Day
(I'm not really planing on spilling ANYTHING)
---It's National Inventor's Day
(anything actually USEFUL would be a godsend these days)
---It's National Make A Friend Day
(cats count, right?)
---It's National Peppermint Patty Day
(Already feel like I'm on some godforsaken mountaintop. I'll stick w/ Junior Mints)
---It's National Shut-in Visitation Day
(well, the weather might have something to say about that for now)
---It's National White Shirt Day
(yeah, with the snow, you'll blend right in)
*** Next up, as you know by now, actor Albert Finney passed away at the age of 82.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Finney
I was never a huge fan of his, but I have seen a couple movies he was featured in. Skyfall was his last film appearance, and until I saw the credits, I didn't even know it was him.
BTW,  his role as "Kincaid" (caretaker of the Skyfall Lodge in Scotland) was very good, and lent much to the history of James Bond as a youth.
And, I didn't even hear about this, but actress Julie Adams passed at the age of 92.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julie_Adams
Adams w/ The Creature (Ricou Browning)
She was the "love interest" of the Universal studio monster from the 1950s movie: The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
And, she was pretty easy on the eyes...no matter what role she took
When I saw Jennifer Connelly , she reminded me a lot of Julie Adams.
They both had a similar "look" about them.
*** Next, time to stop on by our "Kitten Corner"...
I know it feels like somebody's watching me...
Our "kids" had a pretty good weekend. Then again, it takes a lot for them to screw up, and so far, having them around and training them properly (and they us), we've been doing okay. We did have one thing yesterday - Gallifrey was going to jump onto the ledge in the living room.
Hey, everyone has an "oops" moment, right?
He misjudged his jump and one of the castle figurines came tumbling down. Luckily, he dodged left and the castle fell onto the couch before landing on the floor.
No damage to anyone or anything, but a few frazzled nerves (of mine) and one scared cat (for a while). He does get a case of the "derps" from time to time.
Violet just takes things a bit easier, and is less overanxious. Talk about contrasts.
*** Next up, let's check back in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Yo, the sun is out. Time to get warm.
Our furry duo spent a good part of the weekend near our place, and deservedly so - the weather was  not given to long bouts of absenteeism. The sun came out for a spell.
I know...I'm loving this as long as I can.
Whiskers always retreats to a shelter, while Midnight will venture across the street (elsewhere). He did stay alongside the house most of yesterday and Saturday (he has to supervise me bringing in the groceries).
I think he's only in it for the treats...such a "mercenary"...heh.
*** Last back to the snow shovel collection...it's actually soothing to avoid the news over the weekend. I actively TRY to avoid it.
I like a BETTER start to a day, like a sunrise.
The only viewing of any news program is local in nature, and usually deals with the weather report.
(I like to see if THEIR guess is as good as mine...HA!)
I used to have to drive in almost any sort of weather, so I guess it's one of those "habits" you get into over time.
But, nowadays, not having to drive in it doesn't mean I have little care ABOUT it. With Wifey on the road daily (for her work), I think I am more concerned than when I traveled about on the east coast.
I'm a worrier, and I always make sure she has the best opportunity to come back home safely.
But, I can't be everywhere, so I rely on her judgment (and my nit-picking) about taking it easy when on the roads.
Concern and care (for another, especially a loved one) do go hand-in-hand, and that's something I think we can ALL get on board with...at any age, because it allows us to become more than what we used to be.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Junior Mints are the King of Delicious.

We had a big tom we called Midnight. He was a good cat and we missed him. When we moved to CA from Ireland, we couldn't bring him.

---h, yes...I'll take Junior Mints over York (or any other peppermint/chocolate ANY day
(I think I'm addicted to them...lol).

---You had a black male named Midnight, too? Fantastic.
Ours is also well-behacved for what we call a "community cat"
---He OWNS us now...HA!
You moved from Ireland to CA?
Aside from the beautiful lands of the Emerald Isle, I'd wager there's not much difference, especially when it comes to the COST of things (and probably taxes).
CA is not what it used to be a couple decades ago, and I prefer to not have wildfires or earthquakes wake me from my slumber.
(we prefer gunshots...heh) J/K

Thanks much for taking time to stop by and comment.

Stay safe out there.

Laurie shows us how to drive defensively- she called in before it kicked off!

Laurie also got some Pep Patties yesterday. Got me truffles.

I actually only saw about Finney on BBC. Adams is a mystery to me. But yes, very fine looking.

Nice job, "Crash Gallifrey, Space explorer"...

---Laurie is MY kind of defense driver...!
---Truffles work foe me, as well.
---If you EVER watch any of the old TV shows (esp. westerns) you've seen Julie Adams.
Her last gig was on CSI-NY back in 2010).
---ROFL..."Crash Gallifrey" -Space Explorer...LOVE IT!
(gotta make him part of the MCU - phase SIX)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting (plus providing some great comedic relief).

Stay safe (and no sliding around) up there, brother.
