03 December 2012

Monday Musings...
Welcome to the (foggy) month of December here in the Heartland.
That's right, no sleet, no snow, no ice...just some morning FOG.
Temps today will climb into the 60s, but after tomorrow, it'll feel a bit more like December...sorta, kinda.
(we might even see some snow/rain mix by week's end)
So, without any further ado, let us plow forward into the last month of the year.
*** A city, any city can be described in a vast number of ways...
I like to use the prologue of "A city is only as good as it's..." - you can fill in the blank with whatever you deem appropriate.
Now, I can faithfully add a "new" finish to that sentence.
"A city is only AS GOOD AS it's POLICE DISPATCH".
See, we have this asshole in the neighborhood that bought a sh*tload of fireworks and feels the need to set them of randomly during the evening...very disturbing if you're reading, or doing anything normal people would be doing about the house.
This moron doesn't set that many off...just enough to make you jump...several times a night.
Needless to say that scares the crap out of the pets, and must bother infants (unless they're already deaf from the loud music abounding from boomcars).
So, on Saturday night, I do what ANY law-abiding citizen would do (after several large items were set off)...call in the "Marines", or in this particular urban scenario...the FWPD.
I placed the call into dispatch around 1700 hrs., and having been monitoring the radio, didn't notice any real situations requiring the police to be elsewhere OTHER than our part of the ghettohood.
I told dispatch I wanted to report fireworks being set off, and was put ON HOLD...FOR FIVE F$CKING MINUTES - (seemed I was rather PUT ON IGNORE instead) at which point I hung the hell up.
Suffice it to say, I'm still quite pissed off over this.
I am thinking of contacting the mayor and giving HIM a nice large piece of my mind!
This is nothing short of inexcusable.
(but is also typical of New Years Eve...another post for another day)
Now, this "could" have just as easily have been mistaken for GUNFIRE, in which case, we would have some sort of issue that obviously would not be readily addressed, thanks to dispatch's FUBAR handling of MY call.
The police (and dispatch) are PAID by the goddamn TAXPAYERS, and if one were to make a "business-related" analogy to this, one might say WE, the citizens are the "customers", while the police are the ones providing a SERVICE.
Well, it's been said that one SATISFIED CUSTOMER will tell FIVE people, while ONE PO'ed CUSTOMER will tell TEN...that's just the ratio retail uses.
And for the taxes, I'd like to EXPECT better "customer service".
Now, I'm NOT placing blame on the boys and girl in BLUE on our streets...they're too busy "chasing the radio", instead of doing PATROLS that could negate much of the problems we suffer daily.
The BLAME rests on the COMMAND STAFF and DISPATCH in the piss-poor handling of this city's most crime-ridden area (that would be us).
What I;m noticing is less and less REAL police work, and more and more "follow up" investigative work being done by the FWPD.
Gee, that used to be the realm of ones we used to call DETECTIVES.
THEY were the ones that showed up AFTER something bad happened.
Personally, if the department wants to "make this up" to ME, they can GIVE me a lifetime CCW permit GRATIS...wave the $125 cost.
You see, when SECONDS count, the police ARE still only MINUTES AWAY (if not LONGER, thanks to the method used to determine the PRIORITY of a given call into dispatch, like the ones that get IGNORED such as MINE).
If you want to truly SERVE THE PUBLIC, then EVERY call should be IMPORTANT.
You let enough "small ones" slip through society's cracks, and pretty soon, you've got more BIG ones than you can handle, especially when you're OVER TWENTY officers down in staffing for street work, right?
It really makes me stop and think when I see much smaller towns with much smaller police forces doing BETTER police work on a more consistent basis. THEY make more arrests, and wind up preventing more crime than we have in larger cities.
Must be that damn RATIO of officers to citizens...or better prioritizing by THOSE command staffs making the difference?
Who can say, but I can only wonder what will come next?
Being put on hold by the local SUICIDE-PREVENTION HOTLINE?
You never can tell in THIS city...but you can look to other cities like DETROIT for a peek into OUR future.
Meanwhile, back in the Squad Room...
*** Another shooting on the near EAST side of Ft. Wayne.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121203/LOCAL07/312039956/1043/LOCAL07
This happened in the East Central Towers and Gardens Apts, located at 901 Francis St at E. Wayne St.
The victim, shot in the leg, was Kyle Bolton, 21. He was transported to hospital in fair condition.
No suspect description has been released, BUT police want YOUR
help in finding who the person was. Now, HOW THE F$CK can I possibly know WHO the perp might be when YOU don't provide a DESCRIPTION, hmm?
Do I LOOK like f$cking KRESKIN or something?
(lemme check my TAROT deck...or gaze into my crystal ball)
Again...lousy "customer service", isn't it?
I mean SOMEONE (like the victim) should have seen who SHOT him, right?
Maybe we should not question or "interview" people as much as interrogate them?
(there is a difference, and one often leads to MORE information forthcoming)
You INTERVIEW prospective EMPLOYEES...not victims or suspects.
Jeezus, whatta BIZARRO WORLD mentality.
*** Now, if you think that the FWPD are only chasing the radio...think again.
They ALSO chase LEADS, like in THIS story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121201/LOCAL07/312019968/1043/LOCAL07
Seems we have a case of snatch and grab of GIFT CARDS from a SOUTHSIDE CHURCH, and this woman is believed to be the person of interest who's been USING them to "feather her own nest" at someone else's EXPENSE.
The church is located at 5310 Old Mill Road (Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ft. Wayne), and they reported the theft on 15 Nov.
(took a HALF MONTH to show a screen cap of tihs person???)
An A/C unit was shoved from a window to gain access to the church, where the gift cards were taken.
A computer, a new sound system and cash was also taken, totalling $6400.00.
One of the gift cards, a CVS card was used at the location at 3918 S. Calhoun St.
Always good to get out EARLY to shop for those significant others in your ghetto-crib, isn't it?
(even if OTHERS paying for it, thanks to your sticky fingers and criminal mindset).
*** An icon of our very own U.S. Navy says "farewell"...
America's FIRST nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Enterprise has been deactivated this past weekend in a ceremony out in Norfolk, VA.
Here's the lowdown:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121202/NEWS03/312029937/0/SEARCH
And here's the WIKI on this proud ship:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(CVN-65)
Launched on 24 September 1960, she was the longest serving aircraft carrier in U.S. history, taking part in every war since Vietnam.
And she was her own "Class" vessel. Every other "CVN" since has only had TWO reactors onboard, while Enterprise had EIGHT.
Her distinct "island" (tower) was part of her trademark wherever she served.
I had a former co-worker that served on her during the 'Nam, and he was part of the flight deck crew (fueler), and he always remarked how BIG she was..and how easily LOST you could get below decks, even on "Broadway"...LOL.
The name ENTERPRISE dates back to Revolutionary days when a sloop-of-war served in the Continental Navy (1775). She was decommissioned a mere two years later and burned to prevent capture. A schooner class vessel bearing the name sailed in 1776.
Here's the WIKI on ALL the vessels with the name ENTERPRISE (including Star Trek)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uss_enterprise
Now, if you think that "The Big E" as she was called, is no longer...well, there are plans for a NEW ENTERPRISE (CVN-80)
And, like her fictional 23rd century counterpart, you can NEVER go long WITHOUT a vessel named...ENTERPRISE.
(all we need is a CAPTAIN NAMED KIRK)
*** Last up today...yep, it's time to begin the "decorating protocol" around our "Fortress", and I will be doing so throughout the week.
I will start in the living room, as it has the MOST decorations and is the room most seen by anyone entering our abode.
Wifey and I did get out to K-Mart this weekend and snag us a 2012 Christmas Bear. (on sale for $9 - down from $15 earlier)
So, within the week, we will have the house decorated for the holidays.
But, it's always bittersweet for me...times past remembered of better days.
In some ways, I like having a festive house, while on the other hand, there are reasons to not want it.
I mean, you DO have to take it all down (again), although some idiots leave the lights up all year (lazy), and some put them up by Thanksgiving (impatient). Some don't even bother at all (apathetic).
We are someplace in-between...and yet detached from these people.
I suppose the holidays would be better if the locals weren't so obnoxious with THEIR celebratory gatherings.
Way too loud (as they are all the rest of the damn year), drunken on any given day (moderation is not on their list), and inconsiderate beyond compare (other people ALSO exist in "your" universe, pal)...these are the trademarks that are representative of most ANY holiday down here.
So, you can see why my reverie when it comes to what the holidays mean, is somewhat tarnished by THEIR behavior.
Still, I'll make the best I can of it...as I usually do.
All the while wondering how LONG it would take to get the police HERE...should I ever...need....them...!
Ignorance might be bliss, but I'd rather side with responsiveness and effectiveness than blissfulness when it comes to protecting ALL citizens.
I think that would work for ANY of us, right?
Do have yourselves a great week.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

30 November 2012

Friday Follies...
Well, here we are at last - end of the week AND the end of the month.
I kinda like when that happens...makes things a lot less complicated.
Weather today will seem more SPRING-like than anything else. For the next several days, we're going to see mild temps in the 50s.
Hey, I can deal with that...I love light-jacket weather.
And to those of you that believe we're a mere 22 days from the end of everything (12/21/12) I wouldn't go and max out those credit cards JUST yet.
So, let's get busy with seeing what the hell has been going on over the past 24 hours, shall we?
*** An update to the Pontiac Mall shooting.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121130/LOCAL07/311309969
At least the coroner followed my lead and called this the 26th homicide this year.
Kenton Allen Beckman, 44 was the victim, and if you think he was less than a stellar citizen with a criminal past, give yourself a gold star and go to the head of the class.
The story mentions one incident Beckman was involved with, but let's see his ENTIRE rap sheet.

=============
This guy must have pissed someone off bad enough to warrant a shooting.
I love that fact that his CARJACKING case from 2007, being accused of fleeing in his mother's car after throwing her to the ground and taking money from her purse was DISMISSED (thanks, Karen Richards. You sure know how to prosecute...NOT).
Beckman also liked to drive fast and run red lights...since 1987.
NOT ANY LONGER!
*** And what about that PROFED Credit union robbery that occurred yesterday morning?
Glad you asked.
Here is the source story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121130/LOCAL07/311309962
At least THIS one didn't happen on the SE side of town...just the EAST side, where THREE schools were placed on lockdown and ELEVEN schools (total) were put "on alert"..
Amazing we always hear THAT term - LOCKDOWN - a term once used to refer to a PRISON situation.
Wifey even shot me an email asking what was going on, so I filled her in.
The ProFed Credit Union located at 6448 Stellhorn Rd was targeted by THREE masked robbers toting guns.
One of the employees was ambushed as she opened the place up, and was bound and battered along with 2 other employees.
When describing these perps, I like to use the phrase "Poorly-Dressed Ninja Wannabes".
The robbers also shot off their guns (REAL ninjas never use guns) a few times before leaving the building with an undisclosed amount of money
A customer waiting in the drive-thru area saw the robbers fleeing and called police.
A K-9 was used to track the criminals, but could not get a hit on direction of travel, although the customer said the perps fled south.
There IS a $5K reward for info leading to the arrest of the robbers (thanks to the FBI).
At least there were some decent security cam pictures..for what they're worth.
None of the employees required medical attention by EMS as a result of the gunfire or the battery.
Now, forgive me for being correct (again), but with the FWPD short of about 21 officers, and with an increase in crimes across the board, wouldn't it be time to entertain the notion that we do, in fact, need MORE officers on the streets, and not FEWER?
Yeah, I know...CRITICAL THINKING can often piss off a lot of folks...well, that's tough sh*t, isn't it?
*** The "War On Christmas" is starting anew, as it does every year for the past decade.
The first shots have been fired, and as usual, it's the same old morons leading the charge.
One situation happened on Bill O'Reilly's show the other night.
Here's the link (with video) from The Blaze:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/bill-oreilly-and-atheist-leader-have-gonzo-confrontation-over-christmas-you-are-a-fascist/
Hey, I'm OK with saying that "Christianity" is a "philosophy", with CATHOLICISM being a RELIGION...like JUDAISM.
Christianity is the blanket that covers all the RELIGIOUS denominations, espousing a similarity of values and intents.
It's when the pinhead atheists try to bust on MY religion that I get cheesed the hell off.
I don't go dumping MY religion down other people's throats like scalding hot coffee, and I damn sure don't want (or expect) other people to dump THEIR beliefs down MY throat...got it?
This wasn't even an issue when I was growing up (we seemed to all worship the SAME GOD back then for some odd reason, and we DARED to say the Pledge of Allegiance to our FLAG), but with the advent of a much more "understanding" society (that means caving in to every fringe group and loon with some nonsensical "cause"out there), we transpose OUR true beliefs with their rhetoric, in the name of diversity or tolerance.
((Bullsh*t!))
And if doing that screws with MY holiday cheer, you best look out, because I'm taking NO prisoners.
Sorry, but I've already stared to spread my Christmas wishes...the Fed Ex guy the other day dropped off a parcel, and I wished him a happy holiday season.
People DO appreciate it.
And the closer it gets to Christmas, the MORE I will do it.
If some folks take that as an affront...that's too damn bad.
MERRY (f$cking) CHRISTMAS anyway, you asshats!
These atheists need to just back the hell off from the majority of the people that truly DO celebrate the holidays in the manner for which they were intended.
Don't you think we need SOME TIME OFF from all the crap that gets tossed at us the REST of the rolling year?
And don't you think that CHRISTMAS TIME is the BEST time to do that?
But maybe I'm just not up with the times...too bad.
Tradition DOES still have it's place, both in our lives and in our society.
Anyone that can't (or won't) see that is denying themselves of some wonderful stuff.
*** Lastly today, there is proof that angels walk the earth, and you probably have seen this - I just wanted to reinforce the meaning BEHIND why such altruistic examples are there for us to see.
Here's the link to the story:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/29/nyregion/photo-of-officer-giving-boots-to-barefoot-man-warms-hearts-online.html
An NYPD officer, one Larry DePrimo, 25, a two year member of the department is shown buying boots for an older barefoot homeless man.
The picture (taken by a tourist) has gone viral, as things tend to do on the Internet.
The NYPD Facebook page is loaded with likes and comments as well.
But all this is about MORE than just a pair of boots...or a viral photo on the Internet.
And this officer demonstrates in no small way the manner in which he was brought up...
It's called TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUES.
You HELP those less fortunate.
You LEND ASSISTANCE where needed.
You STEP UP when others do not, swallow your pride, and DO THE RIGHT THING...not because it's "popular", or because it's trendy.
You do it because that's the way YOU WERE RAISED.
I've known my share of Italian families, and they have a VERY deep sense of family...and of self. Ditto for Irish families, along with others.
And you never place yourself OVER the family...you serve your family...or even your "extended" family, and in some cases, that might entail a lot more people than you can imagine...shield or no shield.
While this homeless man has been blessed by the thoughtfulness of one lone police officer with a good upbringing, that officer has been blessed in ways he won't even know...or be aware of.
Allow me to paraphrase a famous line from RFK...
This officer doesn't look at the world and asks "WHY?"
He looks at the way the world COULD be and asks "WHY NOT"?
God bless such people like Officer Larry DePrimo...he's an idealist.
And let that be the lesson for us ALL this season.
We'll catch you here NEXT month...have yourselves a great weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

29 November 2012

Matters of Perspective...
Welcome to the "Almost Friday" edition of all the news that's print to fit, including all the pungent social commentary you've come to expect from yours truly. The weather today should be nice, with highs in the upper 40s, and not seeing any chance of precipitation.
With that dispensed with, let's pour ourselves a refreshing beverage and take a gander into what is going on in BIZARRO WORLD.
Before we dig into society's local cesspool, we need to provide the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? military quote:
"Who wants a military leader incapable of understanding that the opponent is not going to surrender - that he must be crushed?"
This was spoken by that wonderful poster boy for Marxism, Josef Stalin to (none other than) H.G. Wells, quoted in M. Berchin and E. Ben-Horin: The Red Army, 1942. Interesting that Wells would be seen chatting with Stalin, but considering Wells' dislike for the British government (as can be read in several of his novels, which predate the FIRST World war) it provides us with a different side of the author in his later years.
Wells also had an affair with Margaret Sanger, declared himself a socialist, was intrigued by the tenets of the Fabian Society, and became a member.
Liberal leftists would LOVE him today.
Here's his WIKI:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._G._Wells
And here's the WIKI for Stalin:
Meanwhile, back at the manifesto...
*** We can chalk up HOMICIDE NUMBER TWENTY-SIX (that's 26 for those keeping the dead pool going).
And guess what?
It happened on the...(...all together, gang...)...SOUTHEAST SIDE of Fort Wayne!
(you guys sound better each time...lol)
Here's the media source story:
It doesn't say much, other than someone was shot in the E&M Barber Shop at the Pontiac Mall (isn't that part of that urban enterprise area?) located at 1108 Pontiac and Smith Sts.
That's the same place where Ray's "Snack bar" can be found - the guy we used to get ALL the wrong numbers from (asking for "the morning numbers" - nice side-racket), all because our number was ONE digit off, and the locals can't read, and fat-finger like crazy.
Now...for the "rest of the story"...as I heard it over the radio
This occurred around 1548 hrs..
The victim was described as having MORE than one gunshot wound.
One was to the head, and another had to have been somewhere on an extremity as the EMTs applied a tourniquet to it - and with a HEAD wound, you NEVER place one on the NECK...DUH!
((warning - graphic content follows))
During transport, the BP was 120/80 (a little "thready") and he had "grey matter" coming from his skull (as per the EMT description en route to hospital).
There was no sign of an exit wound from the skull.
Police were looking for a GOLD DODGE PICKUP as the possible getaway vehicle.
After hearing that, I figured this victim either was not going to make it, or wind up as a vegetable (brain dead).
Guess we can add "getting a haircut" to the ever-growing list of things you CAN NO LONGER DO WITH SAFETY on the SE side of town.
(thanks to all the diligence shown by our new Quadrant Captain...aka the "empty uniform" known as Cpt.Garry Hamilton)
How the department could place this guy in that position confounds the hell outta me (affirmative action at work, no doubt).
Hey, we could still make THIRTY homicides, if these perps get busy.
The (obviously black) woman both on TV and in the article fears for her children's safety.
Really?
Lemme clue you in on something, toots - it's the CHILDREN (that grow up) who are CAUSING most of this sh*t down here, due in no small part to FAILED PARENTING, and an ethnic community that just isn't cutting the muster.
We STILL don't hear word one from ANY of those "leaders", and nothing from the FWPD top brass, right Rus?
All the while, I'm always concerned for the safety of me and the lovely Mrs.bobby G.
(but at least, I CAN SHOOT a lot better)
*** Now if you've been a "REGULAR" here (and you know who you are, even if you don't eat prunes every day...LOL), you hear me talk about the LACK OF RETAIL on the SE side (unless you like either K-mart or Wal-Mart, 'cause that's about ALL 'YA GOT, folks), and how we need more of damn near everything.
Menards does serve a PURPOSE and that being home IMPROVEMENT (with the fix-ups for all the section 8 rental cribs trashed by govt.-sponsored lowlifes ), so that's aside from this.
And you've heard me state in no uncertain terms as to WHY we don't have more retail (down here), or WHY other retail venues (well over 100) have gone "bye-bye"...
It's the CRIME!
(like all the shootings and robberies...gee, 'ya think?)
Well, after the first of next year, we can now add the MARSHALLS located at Southgate Plaza as the newest retail "victim" to succumb to the criminal element.
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121129/BIZ/311299949/1031/BIZ
What the article neglects to mention is the level of crime in the immediate area...(it's called SPIN for a reason, people.)
The spokesperson "says" it's due to LOW SALES (yeah, they never figure shoplifting into those numbers)
And yet, other stores owned by the same company, TJX
(on Maysville Rd and Coliseum Blvd) WILL remain open.
Now what do THOSE stores have that is lacking down HERE?
-- Better clientele?
-- Less crime?
-- Less "shrink"?
-- ALL of the above?
Yep...all of the above.
It's the same story that played out at the old Southtown Mall...(normal, law-abiding) people will REFRAIN from shopping at ANY place where a modicum of safety cannot be had.
I've worked in Store Technical Services for a big box, and we dealt with security issues, both inside AND outside the building, and whenever people feel they can have a good experience while shopping, they WILL come.
When they cannot, they WILL not (shop, that is).
It's too simple an equation to NOT be capable of figuring out.
Yet some (in City Hall) cannot...or WILL not.
THAT is what caused Southtown to close, and it is also the REALITY behind those "low sales" figures at Marshalls.
This is what you WON'T hear on the news...because it's the TRUTH!
*** Some "good" news - the FWPD arrested the man who committed that Dollar General robbery on E. State Blvd last week.
Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121129/LOCAL07/311299941/1002/LOCAL
Looks like Keith Allen Mason, 33, should have chosen a better line of "work".
Thanks to CRIMESTOPPERS, police received a tip that led to the arrest (in this case, snitches DON'T get stitches).
Mason is listed as "homeless"...wonder how that goes down at the shelter when he brings in his HANDGUN?
Or is that all part of the new OBAMACARE...everyone "gets a fair shake (down) "?
Sure makes 'ya wonder...
*** Lastly today, we've had FOUR shootings in just the last 3 days, but that is only what is being tossed at us by the media.
I KNOW for a fact, that EVERY SINGLE DAY, within a 3 mile radius of our "Fortress of Reason" there is AT LEAST ONE shooting.
Now, it could be a signal 58 (person shot) or just a signal 113 (shots fired), but being as how bullets tend to be dumb, and not know the difference between a building, a person, or a vehicle, it's easy to see that the shooter who is tossing those rounds downrange is a helluva lot MORE STUPID.
These aborigines haven't a clue when it comes to boundaries...or other people getting hurt, or ethical behavior.
They have no qualms about dumping a mag or two at another car, and STILL not being able to hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle.
And that means innocents are often placed in the crossfire.
Still, it's NOT about the guns they use (and have probably stolen or gotten by other illegal means like "straw-purchasing")...it's about THEM...the shooter, the perp, the crim...whatever the hell you want to call these societal failures that are allowed to roam our streets like a shark in search of it's next bit of prey.
Our judicial system fails us daily, as these minions of mayhem are turned back on the streets with impunity and with a regularity unheard of in years past.
There is no EASY solution, save for making punishment FIT the crimes.
When penitence no longer is permitted, don't expect those incarcerated or even arrested to concern themselves with the affairs of the law-abiding.
And when we allow our society to devolve in such a manner, we paint a dire picture of our future for all of us.
We, as a nation can do BETTER than that...and we MUST.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Humpday Happenings...
For all you LYCANTHROPES out there, just a reminder that TONIGHT IS a full moon, so hunt your prey SAFELY.
And beware of people wearing (or especially USINGSILVER bullets.
(...come to think of it, never saw the Lone Ranger bothered by such people)
Anyway, let's get started by jumping into the deep end of life this morning, and see what's been shaking.
Don't forget your "water-wings"...
*** First out of the gate today, time for this week's military quote of the week aka WHO SAID THAT?
"Who wants a military leader incapable of understanding that the opponent is not going to surrender - that he must be crushed?"
I think you'll find the answer interesting, and in today's world, this particular quote seems MOST relevant when dealing with terrorists.
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
*** Next on the plate, an update to the Warsaw/Boltz sts. double shootings.

Keneisha A. Eley, 24, was the woman shot multiple times, and now upgraded from critical to serious condition.
Tyrion L. McNair, 19, was the other victim, and remains hospitalized in fair condition.
McNair was Eley's boyfriend.
Police have stated there appears to be a motive, and this was not "random".
While Eley appears to have no record, McNair is another story:

So THIS boy's got a "history", albeit a RECENT one...likes to smack people around, does drugs, doesn't believe in motor vehicle laws, and likes to put up a stink with the po-po.
How TYPICAL...and all too frequent an occurrence down in the ghettohood.
I get real tired of seeing so many of these perps living in MY zip code!
*** Next up, yes, friends...ANOTHER rolling shootout on the...(...all together, gang...)...SOUTHEAST SIDE of Ft. Wayne (you're ALL in fine voice today).

Here we seem to have a running gun battle involving two cars rolling along S. Lafayette St around 1410 hours yesterday.
Stray bullets struck two houses on Lafayette near the intersection of Senate.
One woman details how a bullet ripped through her house when she was at home with her dog. Another man described the vehicles involved. He said a Dark-colored Mercury Grand Marquis was being pursued by a red or maroon Impala with chrome rims. Both vehicles were northbound.
Obviously, police cannot determine WHICH vehicle the shots came from, or if even BOTH vehicles were shooting at one another.
If it were me, I'd be checking out BOTH sides of Lafayette St.
Curiously enough, THIS happened very close to Foster's Sports Pub, and we ALL know what went down there the other night, right?
So, my question is WHY the sudden spike in such "activities" since we have gotten a NEW SE Quadrant Captain (Capt. Garry Hamilton) and having NOT seen HIM on TV, saying what he PLANS TO DO about this crap?
I think the public should be made keenly aware that it apparently isn't safe to walk OUTSIDE after dark, or in some areas like Warsaw and Boltz, not even during DAYLIGHT.
And that it also isn't that safe to DRIVE through the main streets IN this area...or frequent banks, credit unions, liquor stores, or pharmacies.
Add to that not being all that safe to stop at red lights, because you might get shot at or jacked.
Cripes, this is worse that the frigging WILD WEST...
Granted, I DID see TWO (count 'em, 2) FWPD cruisers on MY street yesterday.
One was an unmarked, and he was cruising slowly through the area.
The other marked car was parked up the block, but I never heard ANY call for the area, so perhaps it was a case of "cooping"...not a problem.
They can coop down here all they damn well please. Hell, park in my driveway if you want.
As long as we have POLICE PRESENCE, the natives aren't restless, but as SOON as the 5-0 rolls off, it's back to "bid'ness", whatever that may entail.
And what about the BLACK community? Haven't heard ONE damn word from THEIR faces over these recent shootings, have we?
Why isn't anyone in the media asking the questions I'm asking, and why are they content to never get answers TO such questions?
I'm getting dizzy from rolling my EYES so damn much.
*** Indiana makes another list, and as expected, it's not a GOOD list.
Here's the story:
Interesting how our OWN media source stated we were THIRD (last year)...but we're actually NUMBER ONE (this year so far).
Helps to have the best, LATEST facts, doesn't it?
Leave it to the DEA to produce up-to-date numbers.
It's believed that 10-15 people might be at the heart of most of the robberies in the state (we can probably figure that one or two are responsible for the thefts JUST in Allen County).
The down side to these robberies, is that it denies those same pharms to people that have a REAL prescription and are NEEDING that particular drug for their condition.
You know, if your pharmacists were ARMED (with proper training), and shot DEAD these thieving perps whenever the robber wanted the next high, I'd bet the number of drug thefts would DROP markedly...just a suggestion, folks. It's proven to work in LIQUOR STORES (and quite well).
*** I found this story to be a case of "hoof-in-mouth" disease...from a LEO, no less!

Indiana is beginning to consider legalizing MJ...personally, it's the whole slippery slope gig.
And the ISP's superintendent is OK with legalization, but the agency walked back his statement (smart move).
ISP boss Paul Whitesell states "...it (marijuana) is here. And it's here to stay."
Much can also be said for those stolen prescripts...along with HEROIN, COCAINE, METH...and CRACK.
So, WHERE THE HELL do YOU draw the line, chief...hmm?
The FEDS have placed into law that marijuana is a controlled substance and thereby ILLEGAL, so we want the states at odds with the feds over this, as they already are in Colorado and Washington state?
Tell 'ya what...why the hell not just legalize ALL of it...every single damn drug out there from"Spice" to "special K", and everything in between, THEN watch the chaotic behavior commence, along withall the INCREASED crime to feed those habits.
Won't matter how much you charge or tax these substances, there will STILL be those that will rob, cheat and steal to get them, unless you tell the feds to back off, and it comes under OBAMACARE...that will make life SO much better, won't it?
You know, the ISP chief has been a LEO for 40 years...maybe he's been tased in training one too many times, and needs to RETIRE.
This is lunacy of the first order, and will invariably lead to:
1) That increased crime that we're already seeing in states that HAVE legalized pot
2) A much LARGER stoner population, incapable of anything but munching snacks and staring at the sun (whoa...awesome...dude).
Sorry, but I don't want to be HIP-DEEP in Jeff Spicolis or Beavis and Buttheads...we got too many as it is.
*** Lastly today, again we see life is about CHOICES.
(and it's got little to do with how many Powerball tix you get today for the $500 million drawing...lol)
Some people make good ones...others, not so much.
And we can also see the result OF bad choices. The prisons are full of such people.
Sure, we can argue the points of prohibition (of drugs) 'till the cows come home, and never reach a consensus.
And yes, we know the result of alcohol prohibition (and it's subsequent repeal).
But, if we begin down this path of legalization of JUST marijuana, there will come those calling for MORE legalization, citing the same premise as they are for pot..."it's not that bad" or "more people are killed by drunks than by stoners".
You really want to entertain such nonsense by allowing MORE people to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while STONED.
There is NO real method for determination of DEGREE of being stoned either, like you have with the BAC and breathalyzers.
It soon becomes an ENFORCEMENT NIGHTMARE. (on Elm street...and every other street in this country)
But legalization of drugs does ONE thing - makes the people more "pliable"...better able to be CONTROLLED.
Again, this is a path we dare not tread, if we are to retain who we are AS a nation.
We have enough problems and obstacles to overcome as it is...why add more?
Just something to think about...that's all.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.
