Humpday Happenings...
Welcome to the middle of the week, and whatever will be tossed at us.
I found out an interesting thing yesterday - you can drop a Zippo lighter into a cup of coffee, and:
1) the lighter WILL still work (first time) when removed
2) Your coffee will NOT taste like lighter fluid.
I have learned since to be less clumsy when half awake...lol.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will bring us mostly cloudy skies, temps reaching only to around 35 degrees, and windy conditions with scattered snow showers all day. Take care driving, as you might encounter some slick patches out there.
Now, let's get that cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa poured as we see what else has been going on.
(and I promise not to play "dunk the lighter" again.)
*** First off of the frosty windshield is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more."
I think this is as good a description of what vision portrays...a shame our city leaders (read good old boy network) don't quite measure up.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Harvard Business Review...
*** Next, is out "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MARCH 7 -
---It's National Be Heard Day
(If you're one of our "neighbors", you can usually be heard BLOCKS away...lol)
---It's National Cereal Day
(got that covered)
---It's National Crown of Roast Pork Day
(that sure looks good)
*** Next up, I found a very good column by Marc Thiessen that speaks to everyday Americans.
Here's the link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/03/03/marc-thiessen-attacking-the-nra-is-really-attacking-everyday-americans/
How about that...I'm an everyday American...every day, too. Who knew?
*** Next, John Stossel had a pretty good look at the Oscars. Here's his link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/03/03/john-stossel-the-political-oscars/
The "Stosscars"...now that's funny.
(and he pretty much nailed all the recipients.)
*** Next up, the town of Ligonier has had a double homicide on it's hands...here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20180307/2-slain-in-rare-homicide-in-ligonier
Yes, it IS "rare" for them to have something like this occur.
((The city of 4,600 people in northwest Noble County has not had a homicide in 25 to 30 years, Shearer said, as he asked for patience in the early stages of the investigation.
“We can say to our community that there's nothing to be scared of at this point,” he said. “Everybody we had been looking for are in custody.”))
Guess there IS still something to be said for small town charm...as compared to Fort Wayne, where we have TRIPLE homicides almost yearly (and that's in addition to the numerous single homicides).
Now, I wonder what Ligonier has that we , here in the Summit City lack?
Could it be fewer immigrants, refugees, and minorities?
(sorry...did I say that out loud?)
And the best part, law-enforcement (there) already have the perps in custory (one found right here in Ft. Wayne).
All it took was a tip to their local police...imagine that. See (or know) something...SAY something. It does work.
*** Next, time to swing on by our "Kitten Corner"...
Psst...here's the plan. We'll be good today.
Our children were pretty good most all of yesterday...they're trying to adjust to this crazy-ass weather (aren't we all?),
A "personal groomer"? Really?
They spent the day being calmer than usual, and napping, and wanting affection (of which there is no short supply of it around here). Nothing like having pets around the home, especially nice loving ones.
*** Next up, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Our furry twosome were trying to stay dry most of the day, which worked out rather well (neither one was soaked...just damp).
Midnight was alongside the house on his straw nest while Whiskers was in a shelter.
And not a meal went unattended.
There was even some time to dry out and stretch a bit.
Midnight spent part of the evening sitting on our back step, keeping watch, no doubt.
*** Last back to the snow-covered lawns...our city has a vision...of sorts.
Unfortunately, it has focused exclusively in the downtown area, while all other parts of town continue to be ignored.
Now, when our own vision goes bad, we seek out an eye doctor and optometrist to have our vision corrected.
We do it because we value our sight and wish to see things as clearly as possible.
But, when it becomes obvious that our city needed glasses to aid in it's ability to "see", it comes up a bit on the short side (for the south side).
This has been a problem (here) for decades, and such lack of vision has been a continuous impediment to progress down on the southeast side of our city. It's gotten to where our mayor couldn't GIVE land away to investors or businesses.
And crime continues to be a growing problem, starting with such ignorance of many down here when it comes to following city ordinances such as proper parking, littering, vandalism and other small stuff.
As we all know, turning one's back to all those little things will make the ignorant believe it's fine to do even more...which they often do. Eventually, it leads to felonious acts against citizens, their property, and businesses (those who are still here, that is). And still all the visions for downtown continue with little regard to "that other part" of  the city.
It would truly be a godsend to have City Hall get their vision corrected by whatever means necessary, before we wind up with a situation where the :blind: will be leading the blind.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

A HA! So today I get to bust YOU for not stopping by, lol...

I haven't read the Theissen article, but I have heard it discussed. Tune in Thursday ( at the very end) for a related thought on the left and attacking everyday Americans.

Stossell- good points. I wouldn't mind doing something like that, but I hate to give a-holes a reward for being themselves.

Sorry to bust you on one, but Ligonier is VERY heavily Mexican immigrant...

No, this city doesn't have vision. Vision is designing things to help the city 30, 50, 100 years down the road. This city has a Christmas list of currently desired rich-folkis playtoys. That isn't vision, it's self-serve.

Chris:
---Actually, I DID read the bible study 3:16 earlier...LOADS to work with there.
I was trying to get that "history" lesson under wraps before going back to comment.
Rest assured I will.
---There are also articles about the attacks on Christians, and how many haven't "held up their end of the log", so to speak. Some of that is pretty interesting as well.
---LOL...agreed - no one has to GIVE them a reason...they do it all the time, and GRATIS...in a terminal way (like a disease).
---Didn't think all the "Mexies" would wind up THERE (figured if anyone, it would be Asians).
I stand corrected.
Still, the Latinos don't seem to kill one another with the VERVE we have here with our OWN minority communities, right?
---That it definitely is, and everyone other than those so privileged didn't even get the scraps from the table...a shame (or is that a crime?).

Thanks much for swinging by to comment.

Stay safe (and well-informed) up there, brother.
