Thoughts For Thursday...
We finally got that rain they were talking about...mostly overnight.
Most of the showers passed south of us.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us some cloudy skies left over from the rain event, and a high of around 62 degrees. Should be a relatively uneventful day (until the locals get up and start their crap anew).
So, what say we get ourselves something to drink, as we take a look-see at what's been going on elsewhere, hmm?
*** First out of the cupboard is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Justice is itself the great standing policy of civil society; and any eminent departure from it, under any circumstances, lies under the suspicion of being no policy at all."
This was spoken by someone I've featured here a couple time before, one Edmund Burke (12 January [NS] 1729 – 9 July 1797), who was was an Irish statesman born in Dublin, as well as an author, orator, political theorist, and philosopher who, after moving to London, served as a member of parliament for many years in the House of Commons with the Whig Party.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Burke
(( Burke criticized British treatment of the American colonies, including through its taxation policies. He also supported the American Revolution, believing both that it couldn't affect British or European stability and would be an innovative experiment in political development because the Americas were so far away from Europe and thus could have little impact on England.))
While it is a longer read than most, it is important to acquaint yourselves with this man and his views, especially how they pertained to the colonies (that would be us). In some ways, he helped shaped who we would become as a nation.
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
 MAY 11 -
 ---It's National Foam Rolling Day

(it's an exercise thing, and why we need a day to observe this eludes me)
 ---It's National Twilight Zone Day
(a classic show, and one I happen to live daily on the SE side of town.)
And that's all for today...we're saving the LONG list for the weekend (again?).
*** Next, time to see just what kind of STUPID we have going on out there.
---Let's try this one for starters:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170511/former-tenant-allegedly-starts-fire-at-apartment
A woman, just released from jail look to be returning, after she torched the apartment in a house she was living at.
She noticed the locks were changed, so rather than call the landlord and ask a few questions, she broke in, started a fire and walked away.
I'll bet the locks on her CELL will still be the same ones.
---This story is one that demonstrates in no small measure the utter lunacy of the court system:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170511/heist-crew-leader-gets-14-years
Okay, so this jackass gets FOURTEEN YEARS for robbery (and carrying a gun, like most of his ilk tend to do), and yet, others who actually USE guns in the commission of a crime (like shooting someone) only get "aggravated battery" and typically about SIX years...where the hell is the justice here?
(( This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Safe Streets Task Force, which is composed of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff's Department, and the Fort Wayne Police Department. The task force was also assisted by the Marion Police Department and the Grant County Sheriff's Department. ))
I guess with MORE agencies, the sentences are LONGER? Kinda makes sense in some perverse way.
---This story is a glaring example of double-standards:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/20170511/devos-booed-at-graduation
So, the Education Secretary gets BOOED at an "historically" BLACK college when giving the keynote address to the graduates at Bethune-Cookman University?
Is it because she's WHITE...or NOT a democrat? A bit of both?
It think this shows rudeness and ignorance on behalf of the student body (imho).
Better to just STFU and nod off if you're not impressed with who showed the hell up (because they might give a damn about where you go after college).
Or how about NOT showing up...like our (late) Bishop D'Arcy did when Obummer came to town years ago...just don't show up.
I also wonder how many of those grads got a government-sponsored ride for 4 years?
*** Next up, ANOTHER fire at ANOTHER vacant house. Here's the story:
http://wane.com/2017/05/11/firefighters-battle-flames-at-vacant-home-in-lake-forest-neighborhood/
This took place around 0200 hrs at a house located at 6828 Forest Glen Court (Lake Forest area).
Now, you can call these fires coincidental, OR, you can call them arson, but someone knows which houses must be vacant, and is getting their rocks off watching them burn.
Or, it could be scrappers covering their tracks...they love to do that.
At least it wasn't some disgruntled former tenant, like the moron above)
*** Next, let's dump the stupid and take a visit over to "Kitten Corner"...
"Why does that red dot keep moving?"
Our kids are getting used to Midnight, and they spend a little time watching where he's at on the patio.
And wherever they might be, they come running (literally) whenever it's time for chow.
"She's watching that red dot again...sheesh!"
Then, they are all over me, while I'm trying to get them their food...no easy task, mind you.
Naturally, as with any meal, a nap soon follows...heh. Kinda sounds like me.
*** Next, time to check out "Tales of midnight"...
"This is my LIKE YOU face".
Our little buddy was having a good day, but he disappeared for a couple hours in the morning, only to return and stay the rest of the day.
I think he feels comfortable enough now to not stray too far.
Heaven knows he's very comfortable whenever Wifey or I go outside to spend a little time with him.
He just rolls around on the ground, and then curls up and take a nap...right out there with the world going on all around him.
*** Last back to the junk drawer...I cannot imagine what it can be like to act as some people act.
It has to be the manner in which I was raised.
Today, what I used to remember as decorum, or etiquette has somehow fallen on bad times.
My parents impressed on me the fact that when you leave the house, you (still) take your family with you.
You are a "representative" of your family...an ambassador of sorts, and the world never stops watching.
That is why you should be on your better behavior, and not acting like some damn fool.
For, when you do, this refelcts back on your family, and people will make snap judgments as to how you were brought up. It's that whole FIRST IMPRESSION thing at work.
And, while people may never get to know you, they WILL have a picture in their mind of what they believe you to be.
Proper behavior seems to be less important these days, and the results of allowing bad behavior to get a foothold is evident.
What we need to remember is that we are ALL under more scrutiny now than ever, so we should strive to give the world the best "us" we can manage, if only for our own sake.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

This may well not be a long comment, for reasons that will become apparent on TM tomorrow. Just give me points for making it!

On the sentences- of course they're longer. More hands, more eyes, less deniabliity.

B-C doesn't exactly put out brain surgeons. I'm sure they but did what they were told to do. And Ripple and Newports for all y'all!

Now how do you know she DIDN'T start the other fire?

---A shot comment is better than none.
---And more MONEY involved in solving it, too, right?
---LOL...yeah, that kinda stuff has GOT to be on the curriculum at THAT college.
---She didn't rent at that other house? Just a wild guess there.

Thanks for taking time to stop by.

Stay safe up there, brother.
